Congratulations for your debut album...
Selim: Thank you very much!
Please describe Judasville with three words!
OLD SCHOOL HARDROCK!
Which bands would you name as your main influence?
Selim: There's way too many bands out there that influenced us to name them all here. But to give you a clue I'll name a couple: Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Johnny Cash, The Ramones, Hank Williams, Social Distortion, The Supersuckers and a lot more.
Please outline some important facts in the (hi)story of Judasville!
Selim: Summer 2003 We got together to drink and talk about music. We started rehearsing and recording in Fall 2003. We started playing live in early 2004 we did as much as we possibly could in order to get our live act together. We released the album in winter 2004. And the rest is basically history.
Berry: After 5 rehearsals in this line-up we recorded 'Excuse Me' just to see if it would work out. Well, after doing some more recordings I gave a copy to Joost, the singer for Discipline, and he passed it on to Laurens and Onno from I Scream Records. They offered us a deal and then the rest is history.
What means music and espescially Punk'n'Roll for you?
Selim: Music is everything. There is no middle way. The band goes above all else. Rock n' roll is our life. Punk is a very important genre but we don't tend to call our music punk n' roll. We are a hard rock band.
Berry: It's all rock n' roll to me. Besides being musicians, all of us are huge music fans too. I cannot imagine one day without music. It doesn't matter if it is listening to music or playing music myself. Music was always there, is always there and will always be there.
What is -from your point of view- the biggest difference between JudasVille and other bands?
Berry: I try NOT to write about eightballs, fast cars, and drinking beer. I did write 'Come On Pretty Baby' which is about hot women and sex. Another difference is that we have country influences in our music, Not a lot of bands have that the last time.
Are you surprised even Metal fans like your music?
Selim: Yes and no, it's really strange but ever since we started playing live we have seen people of all different tastes get together to listen to us. We've had punks, hard rockers, pshyco┤s, hard core kids, metal heads and even country fans in front of our stage and most of them seem to find something they like in our music. We think it's great that many different people like what we do. For metalfans specifically, I hope they like the double leads!
Berry: We listen to all kinds of music ourselves too, and that probably
reflects in our music.
Is there something you wanna express with the bandname?
Berry: To be honest it is a big "Fuck You!" to everybody that is or has been talking behind my back. The more friendly way to say it is that it consists of JUDAS Priest and NashVILLE: hardrock and country. And JudasVille is all about hardrock and country.
What do you expect wihtin the next years?
Selim: We'd like to be playing 250 shows a year and selling a billion albums would be nice as well. Hahaha! No but seriously, we just want to play as much as we can for as many people we can. Touring would be great and we are working on that as we speak.
Berry: In March we will do a show in Tokyo, Japan. We were invited to play at a big music convention called Indepence D and we hope to impress the press and labels over there. We will also do 2 shows as a support for the Golden Earring, which is a very huge Dutch rockband, those guys been around for over 25 years. And in April we will tour in France for a week. The time before, in between and after thoese events will be used for touring in The
Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. And I guess that we will always be playing live a lot, just because we like it very much. Ofcourse we are also preparing a second album too. So there you have a little scoop (JudasVille goes to Japan!) and our plans for the coming years.
The final words are for you!
Selim: Thanks a million for this interview and helping us put the word out about this band of ours. Check out our website
and please buy our album!
