Devil Lee Rot "Bringing Back The Old Days"
DEVIL LEE ROT from sweden have just released their new album "At Hell's Deep", which features catchy old school Heavy Metal stuff in the vein of the NWoBHM combined with evil vocals. Mainman Devil Lee Rot himself was so kind to answer my questions. Okay metalsisters and metalbrothers, here we go...

Devil Lee Rot - Bringing Back The Old Days

Hi there Devil, first of all: how are the reactions you get for your new album from the press and especially the fans?

So far it has been good, I think, but some do really complain about the vox, they want more "normal" singing. But if I start to sing "normal" DLR will just be another band in amount. It was the mean reason to form DLR to play Heavy Metal with my kind of vocals.Thats why we call our self The New Wave of Swedish Blackend Heavy Metal.

Please name us some bands that have influenced you and some other bands you like to listen to at the moment.

Running Wild and lot´s of other True Metal acts from back in the 80's.Attlain,Kat from poland, Citron, Aria, Iron Maiden, Angel Witch,Witchfynd. Well I´m listening to lot´s of bands, it´s really hard to tell but lets try: Oz, Ostrogoth, Witch Cross, Ravage, Agent Steel, Steel Angel, Manilla Road, Damien Throne, etc.

What was the best concert you have ever played with DEVIL LEE ROT?

All our shows are great but the best ones were at Hellbangers and in Holland. We do our best to make a good show, you know.

In which country do you have most of your fans, in Sweden or another country?

Well it must be in Germany I think.

Due to the fact, that a lot of fans are coming from germany: do you have plans for a germany tour?

So far just one gig on the 2nd of October at Hellbangers once again. But in the moment there are no plans for a tour.

Do you miss the spirit of the 80's in the metal scene of today?

Yes. It´s not the same, there are only a few of us left. Some new cool True Heavy Metal kids are born into metal scene.

If you have the opportunity to travel in time: which concert do you want to visit and which other band do you want to play with?

Well, I don´t know, maybe Venom back in the 80's and I also want to play with Iron Maiden and Running Wild. But it dosen´t matter which bands we play with as far as they are great metal bands with the true spirits.

What has changed in the metal scene if you compare the old days with the situation of today?

A lot of things have changed, now we are in fucking glam trendy shit! And we also have the so called Nu Metal which has nothing to do with Metal at all in my opinion.

Please give some comments to the following things:

True Metal

Just like us, those who have it in their veins and their hearts. You are not only into metal for a while or so, you are born into it! That's True Metal for me (me too -Armin).

Metalcore

Hm, definately nothing for me.

The Osbournes are sabotating Iron Maiden

I agree with Bruce Dickinson, too many bands are rejoining today, I think it´s nothing true in that.

Which aims do you want to reach with DEVIL LEE ROT?

To keep the metal alive, playing live, making more records, even more playing live, and we will fight for our Metal Union Religion.

Any last words to the fans.?

Armin, thank you for the interview. And to all our fans: thanks, you´re still the best just like always.
