Calico System "Cannibal Corpse Meets Destiny`s Child..."

Calico System - Cannibal Corpse Meets Destiny`s Child...

What can you tell us about the fan and press-reaction until now concerning "They live"? Do you notice a growing interest in the music of Calico System?
The reaction so far has been amazing. Everyone who's been into the old stuff has been super stoked on the new stuff and we are winning over tons of new
fans on a daily basis. The record's only been out for 2 weeks now and things are definitely changing for us, the shows are getting bigger and bigger and the response has been getting better and better.
Unfortunately I don`t know your first album. So what are the differences between your debut and your new output "They live"?
The last record was more of a stop and go, quiet then loud, expirimental record. The new one is straight up power and energy with the same melody and attention to detail that made the first record great.
In my feeling the sound on "They live" is fine but not perfect yet. I think and hope, there is more possible. What is your opinion about it?
I'd say it IS perfect for us as the band we are right now. It is our sophmore record and we did exactly what we intended to do when writing it. In our eyes, it is the perfect record for us RIGHT NOW. All bands grow overtime and I can guarantee by our 3rd release we will blow everyone away. We are very happy with They Live and haven't heard a bad word about it yet.
Listening to "They live" you can notice a clear and aggressive Old-School-Hardcore influence but also highly melodic emo-vocals. On tour, you shared the stage with more emo-orientated bands like STORY OF THE YEAR and HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS which I like as well. At the moment you`re playing with Equal Vision`s CHIODOS, also a more Emo than HC-band. So where do you see yourself more connected with? Where are your roots and where do you want to go in the future?
We don't try to connect ourselves with to anyone, or any scene or style. We write the music WE want to write. Some of us listen to death metal, glam rock, pop, emo, tech-metal... everything you could imagine at least ONE of us are probably into. All of that comes together when we write and you get what you get.
It is obvious that you like Bands like ATREYU and HATEBREED. Are there other influences or rather favourite bands you like and listen to in your private living-room? Perhaps other genres?
We listen to Destiny's Child, Cannibal Corpse, Kenny Rogers, Tom Waits, Justin Timberlake... alot of stuff that you'd never really think a band like us would listen to. Those bands that yuo mentioned that you may be able to say we sound somewhat like are usually the last bands any of us actually ever listen to.
Is there a metal/hardcore scene in St- Louis ? Are there other bands?
There is for sure. The St. Louis Metal and Hardcore scene has been around for years. Bands have come and gone, but there ahave always been people in our town who are passionate about this kind of music.
The last three years you were nearly uninterrupted on tour. Is there something you miss/something you don`t miss when you think of home?
We all ususally iss home after a few months of touring. But then you get home, and within like 3 hours you are bored out of your mind and ready to go back out to the next adventure. Like they said in the movie Roadhouse... "I'll get all the sleep I need when I'm dead."
Is there a funny or interesting tour-anecdote you`d like to tell our readers?
I saw a little Mexican girl taking a crap in a parking lot in Arizona yesterday. Just dropping her pants and crapping in the middle of the afternoon in the parking lot. She was maybe 3 or 4 years old. Blew my mind.
When will you be playing in Germany?
Hopefully this April. Keep your ears open.
What is a better feeling? Standing on stage and playing in front of the crowd or creating a new song idea in the rehearsal-room?
They are both great, but both very different.I would never want to give up either one. Half the fun and excitement of creating a new song is the anticipation of playing it live. The two go hand in hand.

Thank you for the interview.
