Hi there. Congratulations to your great new album „Turning Season Within“. Please describe the reactions to the CD so far.
) It’s been great really. I think we manage to put out a really soild album this time.
How important is the opinion of your fans, the press and people in general? Or is it just you and your music?
Of course the opinions matter but we try to go with our own feelings mostly. It’s important if you want to develope as a band I think.
Some of our readers may never have heard about you. Please give us a short briefing in the band's biography.
We’ve been around since 1994 but didn’t do our first record until 2003. We were a total different back then and were more influenced by bands like Moonspell, Katatonia and other Melodic Death Metal acts. It wasn’t really until the year 2000 we changed into the Draconian we are today. Signed a deal with Napalm records in 2002 and recorded our first album “Where Lovers Mourn” the year after, followed by “Arcane Rain fell” 2005 and “The Burning Halo” in 2006.
What are the differences between the last Album „Burning Halo” and the new CD "Turning Season Within" in your opinion and what are the reasons for these differences?
“The Burning Halo” wasn’t a real album. It was a collection of three new songs, three re-recorded demo songs from 1999 and two cover tunes. So this new album is the real follow up to “Arcane Rain Fell”. The new album is more driven and up-tempo then anything we written before based on more rhythms and with a lot more structure.
What is the message of „Turning Season Within” and what is the theme of this?
The title indicates a change within, an inner turmoil, a struggle, going through a change of great importance. The lyrics deals with very personal stuff like different aspects of depression, love and life.
Which one is your favourite song from the album and why?
I must say Earthbound. It has so many things going on and sums up Draconian in 2008 in a good way. It’s a very unusual song for being a Draconian song. ( this song is my favorite also)
Please tell us something about the „Turning Season Within” process of songwriting.
I just started out with some riffs and managed to write 2 or 3 tracks rather quickly that I felt was a good continuation for the band and I kept writing material in the same vein. Everything was written while entering the studio so it all went smooth while recording.
All of your albums get good reviews, where do you get your inspirations from at this level to keep?
I don’t know. We have been real blessed with good reviews from the start that’s true but we don’t think about it when it comes to do our next album. There is no pressure really.
Any plans for some further stuff of „Turning Season Within” (like singles, video, DVD etc.)?
No, but we released a brand new song available for downloading that isn’t from the album. We have also talked about doing a video for one track on the “TSW” album but I don’t think it’s going to happen.
What are your influences for your music?
) I don’t know. Other bands maybe. I usually just sit down and write. I often record a bunch of riffs and melodies and arrange them afterwards.
What is you plan for the future?
Hopefully getting out on a tour. We are doing some shows this summer together with Novembers Doom in Belgium and Netherlands and some festivals. Then I guess we’ll begin writing new music.
Which advice their young bands would give?
I don’t know. Just be active and practise and record as much as you can.
When can the fans seeing you in Germany?
When we get someone interested in us playing there we will come right away.
Now, then will hope that the festival or the concert oranizer take a look on you
Is there something that you have never been asked but always have been eager to say?
No, not really
Tell us your opinion over our magazine and web magazine general.
I haven’t looked at it, sorry (then it becomes time haha)
Thanks for the talk, please say a few final words.
Check out the new album if you haven’t got it already and thanks for the support!
