Hey Guys! Congratulations to you for the new album! Please tell us about the developing process of “Global Drama”.
Thank you very much:). The first song that we wrote for Global Drama was finished only a few weeks after the recording process of our second album (Crimson skies) in early 2006. But, with Global Drama we wanted to create a more varied album dynamically and songwise and the album as a whole is more thoughtout compared to our previous albums. There are songs on Global Drama that are the heaviest and rawest songs we’ve composed this far and there are songs that are more dynamic, progressive, ethnic and atmopsoheric. But, still we wanted to keep the “style” in our music that we have established ourselves with on our debut album and Crimson skies. So, basically you will get “more of everything” but, still with the typical Cloudscape sound.
What about the title “Global Drama”? What do you want to tell with this?
Well, basically there are several aspects ´choosing Global Drama as album title. First of all we thought about the songs on the album that are very emotional and dramatic and so are the lyrics in it’s own respective ways. Another reason to choose this title is because of all problems mother earth are suffering at the moment such as wars, pollution, global warming etc etc.
What are your main musical influences?
Bands and artists doesn’t inspire me to write music in a certain way. That kind of inspiration do I get by visiting and watching nice environments, a nice sunset sky, my moods etc etc. But, bands that I have grown up listening to and some bands I listen to nowadays that have had some impact on me musically are “Yes, Kansas, Rush, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Whitesnake, Dream Theater, Incognito, Toto, Symphony X etc”.
What are your self- defined trademarks and how do you separate yourself from other bands of this genre?
Well, considering there are so many bands nowadays it’s of course hard to see what makes Cloudscape unique but, one thing is that we want to compose music that both the basic metal fan can like and also the more progressively based metal fan. We want to appeal to both worlds so to speak;). Another thing is that we put a lot of weight in our melodies which I also think is a trademark for Cloudscape.
What are your favourite songs on “Global Drama”?
That depends on my mood because, I love all songs like children. But, lately I’ve been listening to “One silent moment, Mind diary. Eyes of jealousy and Darkest legacy”.
“Children without a childhood. No freedom, no games to play.” This is an excerpt from the song “Alagoas”. It sounds very depressive and critical. What are your intentions and what do you wish to associate with songs like this?
This lyric is written by Bjorn Eliasson (guitars). It’s a true story about children in Africa used as slaves thousands of years ago. It’s a true story.
What are your plans in future? Are there any chances to see you live in Germany as well?
Our plans is to do as many live shows as possible and Germany is a country we really, really want to visit now. We have released 3 albums by now so, I really hope we’ll be invited to do a tour or atleast visit a German metal festival in a near future. Except for trying to organize tours and gigs we are already composing songs for our fourth album;).
Last but not least – please give me your first associations to the following topics:
Iron Maiden (wonderful decade)
The Swedish Metal Scene
CLOUDSCAPE in ten years
Thank You for answering the questions and good luck! …
Thank you, my pleasure:)
Cheers: Mike Andersson (Cloudscape)
