Tribe "A Square Peg In A Round Hole"
A suprise from Britain has crossed the Channel to excite us with an amazing mix of classic and new Rock and Metal. Incredibly easy Tribe combine different styles of rock music to create an absolute original sound. For other bands this seems to be something like squaring the circle. But the sound of Tribe is fresh and promising. Check out the interview with vocalist Paul Kettley.

Tribe - A Square Peg In A Round Hole

Hi there. Congratulations to your great new album. Please describe the reactions to the CD so far.
Hi. We are pleased with the feedback so far, from the fans and media, there is always that worry in your head that your work will not be recieved well, or misunderstood, especially with a band such as ourselves, who try to push the boundaries a little, so we are happy that everyone seems to like the album.
Some of our readers may never have heard about you. Please give us a short briefing in the band's biography.
Well, we formed in 2006, we all had played in other bands, but the idea behind doing Tribe was to try and do something a little different, within the metal/rock genre, but also to please ourselves a little I think, Tobias Sammet said to me that's what he liked about our music, that you didnt know where it would take you next, and I think That sums Tribe up pretty well.
What are the milestones of your career up to now?
Working with Sascha Paeth, who is a true genius, and a great guy, was really fantasic.Playing with Saxon last year was great, and prior to that opening for Ozzy was truely memorable.
Let's talk about your new CD. My favourite Song is "Sons of Bukowski". Can you tell us something about this song and it's history?
"Sons of Bukowski" is about longevity, it was one of the first songs that Nick wrote for the band, and is already a fans favourite. It combines a subtle, quiet, almost introspective intro into a driving, purposeful monster of a song with a big maiden-esque chorus!
And what about "Ghost Ballet"?
"Ghost Ballet" is the albums epic track, it has been said to us that it is almost Queen-like in places, which really is a huge compliment. The song was written just prior to us starting the album, in fact Sascha had not even heard it when he flew over to England to start pre-production!
Which one is YOUR favorite song from the album and why?
To be honest, I think I would struggle to pick one song, I very much like the album opener "Head" also "Words that kill" but for different reasons, "Words" nearly didnt make the album, it was re-invented at the very end of recording, and for me turned out better than I had ever expected it could ...and "Head" is just one of the best songs Nick has written in my opinion.
Are there some lyrics that are special to you? Tell us something about them.
Bad Dreams, the closing track on the album, the lyrics are about what goes through your mind when you are laid alone in the dark, about regret, remorse ..and loneliness.
How would you describe your own music?
We are a rock/metal band, but with a twist ..A square peg in a round hole!
What are your musical influences in your opinion?
Very, very, diverse, as a band we a hugely eclectic, and draw influence from many places, personally I grew up listening to Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate, and I have been fortunate enough to meet all three, in fact Bruce is into Tribe, and he plays our music regularly on his radio show here in the UK, so to have somebody I respected so much growing up appreciating what we do is incredible.
What was your aim when you started making musik? And have you achieved it?
I think your aims change as you grow, originally I think everyone in a band wants to be a huge star, meet lots of beatiful women, and drive fast sports cars, but we cant all be in Motley Crue!!, so I would say that it is to be proud of what you achieve, and to enjoy making the best music you can.
Is there anything you would do in a different way if you could start it all over again?
Go with my instincts, rather than listening to what turned out to be bad advice!
Is Britain still a good place to start rock musician career?
Yes, I would say so, although since the advent of the internet the world, for a musician is a much smaller place..which has gotta be good!
How important is it for you to play live on stage?
Very, all the members of the band really love playing live, there is no better feeling.
Please describe your audience!
We have fans in thier early teens right through to retiring age... our fanbase is very varied, which is great, that we can appeal to different generations of rock fans.
Please tell us something about further Live activities.
We are playing Wacken Rocks shows in August, but also hope to have one or two more festival appearances over the summer.
Is there a question left that you would like to answer? And what is the answer?
Where can I find out more about Tribe? ...www.tribe.uk.net
We are looking forward seeing you in Germany. Best whishes to you all. Any last words?
We too are looking forward to coming back to Germany, and seeing everybody at the shows over the summer.
