Hi there. Congratulations to your great new album. Please describe the reactions to the CD so far.
GUIDO: Hi to you and to all readers of Metalglory! Thank you for congratulating, we must say that reactions to Tin Soldiers are very good so far, both from our fans and from the press. After two days from the release of Tin Soldiers we found out that there are, unfortunately alot of sites which uploaded the album without permission, but many fans are proud to support us and the power metal scene and they're happy to buy an actual copy of the CD. Our singer Alle designed the whole album and it's printed in digipack with a special booklet with toyshop illustrations and our pictures from when we were babies and already metalheads hahaha. Our fans are giving us a good feedback also on the artwork.
Some of our readers may never have heard about you. Please give us a short briefing in the band's biography.
ALLE: We have started in 2002 as Helloween tribute band and this helped us touring alot all over Italy...in 2004 we were ready to write our own stuff and in 2006 our debut album "Evil needs candy too" was released. We slowly left our tribute project and did a great number of gigs supporting our debut. And now after alot of hard work Tin Soldiers is finally released!
What are the milestones of your career up to now?
ALLE: We have many; our tour in the States in Summer 2007 was crazy, last year we played at Rockin'Field Open Air in Milan with Mago de Oz, Helloween, Avantasia and we also have great memories of our gigs in Germany at Maniacs of Rock and at Aalen's Rock.it we really wish to come back soon!!!
Let's talk about your new CD. What are the differences between "Tin Soldiers" and "Evil Needs Candy Too" in your opinion?
GUIDO: To me we improved alot from our debut in terms of production and songwriting, moreover I see "Tin Soldiers" as a more mature and personal album with big arrangements and sounds.
What are the reasons for these differences?
GUIDO: I would say that these improvements were possible thanks to a more intense collaboration inside the band. After so many years of concerts and adventures of many kinds we kept on going on united as a band mantaining the origina spirit unchanged... this is surely our strenght which goes beyond music: we are very good friends and we have fun doing what we love the most!
My favourite is the "Loser Song". Can you tell us something about it and its history?
GUIDO: I'm glad that you like it! Look, I composed this song in a time of my life which wasn't very easy, a time when I had to face myself and take some important decisions in my life. This song talks about how people in general tend to give, in good and bad, unrequested suggestions on matters that has nothing to do with them and which they probably couldn't even understand....and after giving such advises, they do even bigger mistakes in their own lives. Watching a situation from the outside it will always look easier than it is and before judging anything, one should first know and understand the situation very well.
Which one is YOUR favorite song from the album and why?
GUIDO: "Loser song" and also "Hello moon" and "Tears against your smile". All these songs talk about things that have touched us closely.
Is there already a song to point out that will kick ass on stage at most?
GUIDO: "Paper dragon", "Freedom" and "Loser song": These songs kick ass on stage and our fans at gigs just love them!
As far as I know you have started as a Helloween tribute band. Now you have Michael Kiske as a guest musician on your new album. How did it come to this and how does it feel?
ALLE: It's been all quite easy and Kiske was very nice. We sent a couple of our songs to his label and he liked them alot! So he's on the album! To us, recording a song with Kiske was like a dream come true. As teenagers we grew up worshipping his music and voice.
What makes the difference between Trick Or Treat and other Italian Metal bands?
GUIDO: I have no idea! We do what we like most with no compromises and without taking ourselves too seriously...we have alot of fun and we wish to entertain our fans too!
ALLE: Perhaps...we are prettier!? ahahah!
Is Italy a good place to start a Metal band?
GUIDO: Absolutely no! Here in Italy there are many great bands which put all their efforts in order to play outside from the region they live at...and all these bands believe strongly in what they do, they release albums and invest alot of time and money on their music, but unfortunately there aren't too many venues where to play live here... most of venues organize gigs exclusively for cover or tribute bands and therefore it's natural that many bands have to insert some covers in their set list in order to find stages and get to be known by a wider audience! After all, in most occasions, the bands which achieve playing exclusively their own original music find very few people in front of them. This is a shame and proves the fact that italians in general are not used anymore to new things and prefer to listen again and again to what they already know. This situation must change!
How important is it for you to play live on stage?
GUIDO: It's the most important thing! If the response of the audience is good the show improves automatically and we all come back home happy afterwards!! hihihi
If you could choose freely: Which band shall be the headliner for the next Trick Or Treat show?
GUIDO: I have no idea, the most important thing is that they won't destroy the backstage... that's our duty!! Jokes aside, I would be honoured to play with any band, although I believe that with Edguy we would have alot of fun!
ALLE: ok for Edguy! Let's go!
Are there any plans for playing live concerts?
ALLE: We are waiting for Tobias to read this interview and call us for a tour ;) ...Well, our calendar is pretty full with gigs in Italy, we wish to have the chance to promote Tin Soldiers even outside our country!
Please describe your fans!
GUIDO: Definitely crazy, always drunk and very nice!!!
Is there a question left that you would like to answer? And what is the answer?
GUIDO: "Question": For how long do you think that Trick or Treat's adventure will go on? "Answer": For as long as we stay good friends and enjoy playing together!
We are looking forward seeing you in Germany. Best whishes to you all. Any finishing words?
GUIDO: Thank you METALGORY for your support...and thanks to all those following us...see you on stage!!! We wish to come back to Germany soon so that even those who do not know us yet and have read this interview can start ... beating us! ahahaha stay happy!
