Cannibal Corpse "“global Evisceration” Is A Road Movie..."
CANNIBAL CORPSE . The american Death Metal institution needs no introduction, I think. But the most successful Death Metal Band of all time just released another DVD which should be introduced. Just three years after the great History 3-DVD Box “Centuries of Torment: The First 20 Years” CANNIBAL CORPSE unleashed “Global Evisceration”. A DVD which shows the Bands Life on the Road. Alex Webster, bassist of CANNIBAL CORPSE talks about this cool Stuff...

Cannibal Corpse - “global Evisceration” Is A Road Movie...

First of All: Congratulations to your new DVD “Global Evisceration”. Again it offers CANNIBAL CORPSE at its best. Are you satisfied with the result, and why did you decide to work on another DVD just three Years after “Centuries of Torment: The First 20 Years”?

AW: Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed the DVD! We are very satisfied with the result. We’ve never really done a proper behind the scenes tour DVD so it seemed like a good idea. “Centuries of Torment” was a history DVD, so although it was released just a few years ago I don’t think there is a problem releasing a DVD like “Global Evisceration” since it covers a different subject.

“Global Evisceration” is more like a Road movie than a Live DVD. it gives a deep insight about touring and the Fans, not only about your Live abilities. Would you agree with that Road movie term and tell us about the DVD-content from your point of view, please?

AW: Yes, I would agree with your assessment. The behind the scenes footage is something that we think our fans will really enjoy. I know I enjoy seeing that sort of stuff with my favorite bands, so I think our fans might feel the same way. Also, by seeing what takes place before and after our shows I think the viewer will end up appreciating the actual performance that much more. I think that having a combination of behind the scenes and live performance footage makes for a much better DVD than either would alone.

The Main part of the DVD was filmed in Albuquerque and Englewood. Why did you choose these venues and Shows?

AW: Both cities have great death metal scenes with excellent fans; they always have responded well to our live performances. Also, they are relatively close to each other so the filmmaker Denise Korycki was able to use the same Denver based camera crew for both concerts, which made things easier for her. Also, both venues were a good size for us- not too big, not too small- and they were also a good size for filming.

The DVD was again produced and edited by Denise Korycki who also did the Work on “Centuries of Torment: The First 20 Years“ Can you give an overview about the origin of your new DVD and have you been involved in the editing process; I think it takes a long time to watch and compile all the footage?

AW: The idea of making the DVD came from our management and label, I specifically thought it would be cool to have the DVD feature a lot of traveling/tour life, since we hadn’t really done anything like that before. Denise did all of the editing up in New York, we only made one or two minor adjustments. She worked on it for months, as she did with “Centuries”. She is a really hard worker- she does the job of several people when she makes DVDs, and the result is a DVD that looks big-budget, when the reality is that we had a very small budget to work with.

Talking about the “Evisceration PlagueTour” in general: Did this tour fulfill all your expectations and can you give us some basic information about the Tour. How long have you been on tour, How many countries did you play,…

AW: We played in 40 countries, I don’t know exactly how many shows (we put the list of dates in the end credits of the DVD if you want to check), but it was a lot. It had to be over 200 shows throughout 2009-2010. We were very satisfied with the tour. We played several places we’d never been to before (Malta, Turkey, Israel, Ukraine, etc.) and we also played shows with some bands that we really like- Slayer, Behemoth, Nile, Megadeth, Neuraxis, etc, etc....we played with dozens of awesome bands over the past two years. Also, by playing with some of those bands, in particular bigger ones like Hatebreed, Slayer, or Children of Bodom, we may have introduced our music to some new fans. That’s always a good thing for a band to do.

What was most disappointing and the most exhausting experience on this Tour?

AW: Overall it was really good, but having to pay the airline a €3000 fee for bags that didn’t even arrive in time for our show in Tel Aviv really sucked. The festival tours were all pretty exhausting because of the tight schedule with flights. But those kind of problems really aren’t a big deal- in general we have no complaints and consider the tour a great success.

In the Bonus Section is this cool “Gifts of Gore”-Part, where the Corpsegrinder presents some really cool gifts vy Fans. What was the strangest, most ridiculous or / and impressive gift ever, you received by a fan?

AW: People have given us some strange things. We have received several pigs in jars filled with formaldehyde, somebody threw a large plastic rat onstage while we were playing “Devoured By Vermin” once...things like that. The most impressive is probably a painting based on our band given to us by a fan in New Mexico. We appreciate the gifts, even the strange ones!

And what was the strangest / most ridiculous item in your tour rider?

AW: I wish I had something good to say for this one but our rider is pretty boring. About the most exotic thing we have on there is hummus. Not very exciting I guess.

Can you share a funny anecdote, happened on this tour and which can not be seen on the DVD, with our readers?

AW: I can never think of anything when people ask this question. The funny stuff is usually also mundane- people making jokes, laughing about stupid things. I can’t really think of any particularly interesting funny stories off hand, sorry...

What’s about your further activities in 2011? Anything planned, especially for Germany?

AW: We have no plans to play any shows until 2012, although if a big opportunity comes our way we’ll consider it. We are currently writing our next album and practicing the new material a lot. We’ll be ready to record in September, and we’re hoping to release the new album in early 2012- a tour will follow. We’ll make sure to play lots of shows in Germany on that tour, the scene there is fantastic for death metal, and really for all different types of metal. We always love to play in Germany.

Thx for answering our Questions. Any Finishing words to your Fans and our readers?

AW: Thanks for the interview! To our fans I’d like to say thank you for the support, we will see you on tour in 2012 in support of our new album...until then, stay brutal!

Alex
