Pagan`s Mind - Im Gespräch über Das Neue Album

Hey Guys! Congratulations to you for the new album! Please describe the reactions to the CD so far.
Hello! The reactions has been tremendous so far. The album has been “album of the month” in several important magazines, we have entered the charts at good positions in several countries, and the reviews all over is very, very good. We are so very much satisfied so far! Definitely a big step up ahead for the band, and finally with a serious record label to support us, the future looks brighter than ever before.

Please tell us about the developing process of “Heavenly Ecstasy”. It took you quite a long time since the last album “God`s Equation”
Yes it took a long time, I guess we were a little “dried out” on the creative side after “God´s Equation”. In addition we did a lot of touring after that album, and that takes up a lot of time and energy. I guess three year is what we needed this time around to put out a good album – we always think quality over quantity, that pays off in the long run. I guess about two years after “God´s Equation” we started to write again. Then the recording process took half a year, and we changed record company after that, so everything stretched out. But we are back with a bang! :-)

The new material sounds very melodic and progressive at the same time. How would you define your musical style?
I would say we are a melodic, epic heavy metal band with a distinct and unique sound. We were labelled progressive in the past and I can understand that. But today I don´t think that label fits us that well anymore.

What about the recording process of the new album? Any stories or curiosities to report?
We recorded everything in our own respective studios – we have all own recording equipment in our houses and record everything there. After everything was recorded we travelled to Toytown Studios in Stockholm with Stefan Glaumann as the sound producer. The man is a genius and having produced the latest Rammstein albums you can tell the man has golden fingers and a sense for success. In addition, he´s such a nice person and a true artist. Very inspiring in deed!:-) No “crazy” stories during the recording process this time. Actually me and Jorn Viggo (guitarist, who is the bands recording producer) stayed friends pretty much through all the stressful hours of recording vocals. So after all a pretty good experience this time around, even though I have to say that recording really isn’t that much fun, it´s really labour at times.

What are your favourite songs on “Heavenly Ecstasy”?
My favourite songs are “Eyes Of Fire” and “Power Of Mindscape” (only on the ltd. Edition) I think those two songs really represent the core in what Pagan´s Mind are – lyrically and musically. All epic and mystic!:-)

Please explain us some of the stories that you tell us on "Heavenly Ecstasy"!
“Power Of Mindscape”: the lyrics here deals with the power of the mind and how karma works. If you want something bad enough, your physical energy will radiate enough power to make things really happen. It´s the same technique and principle as religious people always has been doing when they pray, really. Also known as the “Silva/Secret method”, things tend to happen of itself if your will is strong enough. I love the song cause it´s really melodic and intriguing, epic and it gives me goosebumps all the way.
“Live Your Life Like A Dream”: an unusual Pagan´s Mind song musically. It´s pretty poppy and our manager calls it “Pagan´s Mind for Africa” haha. It was the last song we came up with and recorded, but we all love it and not just because it is radio friendly – it comes from our hearts as all the songs does. The lyrics speak for itself. If you try to live your life like a (nice) dream, you´re closer to heaven on earth...

What is your opinion of the general situation in today's Heavy Metal? In my eyes, there are hundreds new of bands, especially in Power Metal, growing up every month. Doesn´t that overload today`s Heavy Metal Scene?
I see your point, there are a lot of bands popping up everywhere and a lot of them does not have “a sound of their own” unfornately. Of course I support every kid that tries to do it with music, but the creative level has seemed to drop the latest years. Power metal as a genre had it´s peak in the late 90´s, with a lot of very very good bands and releases, but the formula of the genre has seemed to bitten itself in the tail, repeating itself too much. It´s like “stop while the game is good”.

Let`s talk about your plans in future. New songs are great to be performed live. Any chances to welcome you in Germany?
Yes there are good chances we will be visiting Germany this year, also maybe for a tour. We have played several times in Germany as support band for bigger bands, but we definitely need to visit our metal brothers in the great country of Germany more…

Any last words to the readers of metalglory.de?
Be nice to each other, don´t drink and drive, support art, love and music and try to see behind the dull surface that surrounds “grey” life. There are so much more that we can not see in this universe…

Thank you very much and keep rockin`!

Thank YOU! :-))
