Hi there. First of all: Congratulations to your great new album “Heretic Commando – Rise of the New Antikrist.” I really like it!!! It sounds refreshing between all the new Metalcore, Mathcore, Deathcore-Shit. Please describe the reactions to the CD so far. I`ve read, that Frank Albrecht of German Mag Rock Hard really likes the Album? That`s great, isn`t it?
Thanks for your compliments. Well, reactions are quite positive so far, in average I would say it is 8/10 points what is not bad at all but we struggle for even better response. It is the challenge for future, I realize that with this album we have to remind ourselves at first place, we had a long break. I mean that next album will have more effective impact on fans, scene and media. And Frank? He is our long time friend and I appreciate his efforts to support us for many years already, even back in Krabathor times. For me, as an East-European metaller it is something, I am still afraid to believe, that means too much for me, really. Anyway, I am sure that Frank really likes our music and that he wouldn´t write in positive way about that in case he wouldn´t like that.
Some of our readers may never have heard about HYPNOS or KRABATHOR. Can`t believe, but maybe, he he. Please give us a short briefing in the band's biography.
But really short one. My career started in 1986 year when I joined Christopher and we started with Krabathor who later became quite popular in Europe. We released 4 full length albums and did many shows and tours. I left them in 1999 year and started HYPNOS with my ex-band mate drummer PEGAS. We released 3 albums under Morbid Records (last 2 of them were produced by Harris Johns) and after 5 years break we came back 2 years ago and now we released brand new album under Eihneit Produktionen.
For me the new album is a wall of big songs. It sounds like every song is at the right place, in the right time. Do YOU have a favourite song on “Heretic Commando?”
Sure, it is “Extremely Dark Days”, song written by Igorr, most black metal one on the album, really evil and stady….on and on and on….hammer. Sick.
Who did the album-cover? It really fits with the music I think. Is there a further meaning behind it?
The figures on the album look really evil, look in their eyes. Drawing is taken from my old book, Alegemeine Weltgeschichte fur das Volk (1850), it is full of similar pictures and I love them. We used some of them also on our previous albums. Final graphic works were done by Jo Mercieca from Eclipse Media. He is very talented guy who really took the point, he tried to understand me for a long time and it seems like he penetrated into my mind. I was and still I am amazed by whole booklet because it fits to the all aspects related to the album. He did great work.
Are there some lyrics that are special to you? Tell us something about them.
Best way is to read them, into the bargain there are explanatory notes related with each single lyric so I prefer anybody to do his own opinion. Then we can discuss about that. Anyway, generally it deals with our kind of revolt against the movements in society we don´t like. Cult of uneducated people with shiny look, corruption, warmongers, religious insanity and degradation of politic trust. I mean everyone should start with clean table by himself, as a foundation stone of new society. Clean, straight and trustful…to family, kids, friends, society…..then we can go on.
As I am a musician too, I like the very big sound of the album. It sounds brutal, but in the same time it has the organic feeling like Death-Metal sounds in the early 90s. So, how do you create your sound? Which equipment do you use?
Thanks man…..we really discussed a lot the way how to work out final sounding. Finally, we decided to record the album at SHAARK STUDIO near of our hometown and to hook up Børge Finstad from Norway for mixing and mastering. Later he decided to come to Czech Republic, to do the drumrecording and set up the guitars and bass sound. We really get along with him, he is similar age as we are and we spent a lot of time with partying, anyway our first task was to record good album and I have to say that this is most professional recording I participated on so far. All instruments are recorded very tight and accurate and final sound is really professional and huge. We used Mapex Meridian Maple drumkit with Black Panther snare and Anatoljan cymbals, old ENGL Thunder amp and Marshall 1960 Vintage cabinet with Fernandes Ravelle guitar and for bass I used MXR M80 bass DI, Kustom Groove bass amp with 8x10” custom Vlasa and Black cabinet and HOHNER jack bass custom bass. Nothing really high-end, but it is equipment we use and love.
What about the recording process in general? How long did it take? Are there any stories or curiosities to report? What can we see on the DVD?
Stories you can see on bonus DVD, there is extended studio report. Actually first part of recording session took 4 days with Børge and then 5 days for guitars, bass and vocals. Then it was mixed and mastered in Toproom studio in Norway. Concerning DVD, there is also official videoclip “Inverted”, trailer and comeback festival show “Back In Death” at Brutal Assault 2010.
Please name some lately released CDs that you like to listen to at home.
Wow, it is really bunch of albums, a few for example are: DYING PASSION “Amplify”, LEPROUS “Bilateral”, BLUT AUS NORD “777-Desanctification”, SEKTEMTUM “Aut Caesar, Aut Nihil”.
Let us have a little view in the future. Are there any goals or plans in the future for HYPNOS?
Sure, to play cool shows and to record good follower to Heretic Commando. Nothing more, nothing less.
We are looking forward seeing you in Germany. Best wishes to you all. Any last words?
You know, we consider Germany as our second homecountry, most important market in metal Europe and we always has many good fans and friends there. Our label is German as well…..I only regret I never learnt German language, I would wish to speak German as well. Therefore we are really looking forward for next shows in Germany, the closest ones are 28.9. in Freising and 29.9. at Rosenheim at Bavarian Battle, both with Asirius and Dead Alone. So see you there!
