Soul Sacrifice "Struggle As Not To Give Up!"

Soul Sacrifice - Struggle As Not To Give Up!

Interview writen by Laughing Moon

Hello guys! Soul Sacrifice is going to tour over Europe soon, supporting Marduk and Immolation. Are you already excited, or, if the first shows are even done: How have you been accepted by the European metalheads?

I’m writing my words just before the tour, so this is exactly our first real tour over Europe, we’re in excitement and waiting to meet the metal-heads and it’s going to be good to learn their ideas about our music.

Is it your first tour over Europe?

Yes, this is our first time as Soul Sacrifice, our band members Özgür (me-bass, voc) & Onur (drums) had experiences with other projects in Germany, Holland & Sweden.

What differences the people there from the metal scene in your home country?

Well, in our country Metal music or the other extreme music genres are not a part of the music industry as on Europe. There are too many Music lovers but not enough labels, organizations to bring people together. The scene is stucked between some clubs in big cities and a bunch of festivals, mostly held in summer. People interested more in foreign metal bands’ organizations happening in Turkey, they still don’t know how important is to support their local bands.

Nevertheless Soul Sacrifice is called to be the most successful Turkish live band. How hard was it to get into this status?

For the same reasons, Turkish bands did not get so many chances to play live, it gets to the point as bands cannot live long enough, so we struggle as not to give up and continue as playing our roles and be the part of the scene for a long time. In years, we got so many chances to play in different cities, big festivals and supporting the foreign bands in Turkey… it’s our time to move on and play in worldwide level.

Your album Carpe Mortem handles with many different styles of metal. What where your personal musical influences that led you to the final sound of Soul Sacrifice?

If you make your music just for fun, you can play whatever you want but if you got an aim you have to think. You have to put something different in your music, not to be a copy of famous act. It lets us trying different parts in our music. We’re trying to be unique … but still trying and learning.

“Keske” is a song you wrote in your mother tongue. How important is it for you to show your own cultural roots in your music? Is it something that happens unconsciously?

Using our cultural roots, both lyrically and musical, is always going to be a part of Soul Sacrifice. Using mother tongue lets our own people to understand our words clearly, on the other hand these roots seems interesting and primitive for people far to our culture.

How can we interpret the album title Carpe Mortem, which means: “Use the death”?

Well we’re so disgusted and so many questions in our minds about the “New World Order”, we use “Carpe Mortem” term as, living our lives as dead day by day… Everday the world turns out to be a graveyard with pointless killings so “Carpe Diem” sucks at this point. This is where “Carpe Mortem” takes the flag and becomes the reality of our lives.

On the album one song has the provocative title “Killing for society”. What is the content of this song?

If you look at the political history, so many people made assassinations, killings, bombings to glorify their nations or races. We try to take a look at these people, psychological points. They believe they are killing for the good of their society… still can’t figure it out! So this song represents these questions.

Thanks a lot for the interview, metalglory.de wishes you all the best for the ongoing tour! Now the last words are yours!

Thank you and hope to see you soon and contact you again in our future works,
Cheers to all metalhearts who read these, Stay tuned for more! \m/
